Slamarena Rules
-Slamarena is a 3 round competition
-All poems read must be original work
-There is a 3 minute time limit on all poems with a 10 second grace period. a .5 point penalty will be given for every 10 seconds over that.
-No repeating poems
-No props or costumes are allowed
-5 Judges will be chosen at random from the audience
-Judges will score poems on a score of 0 to 10
using decimal points to avoid ties
-The highest and lowest score will be dropped with the remaining scores being added together to give the poet a total score
-The 2nd and 3rd round scores will be added together to give you a winner
Once you've qualified
-you need to give the names of your qualifiying poems as well as the 1st line of each poem to insure it does not get repeated in the semi-finals
-the semi-finals will be held on consecutive weeks in April ( the 15th and 22nd )
-the semi-finals is a 3 round bout
-the 3 poems used in the qualifying bout
meaning you need 3 new poems to compete with in the semi-finals
-3 poets from each semi-finals bout will move onto the finals
-the slamarena finals will be held on may 20th, 2003
-the finals is a 3 round bout with 8 competitors
-if you move on to the finals you get the use of one of your qualifying poems
-2 of the 3 poems read in the finals must be new
meaning you could not have used them to qualify with in preliminary or semi-final nouts
meaning 1 poem is repeatable and 2 must be new or never slammed
to clarify you will need a total of 8 poems to qualify for the DPL Team
-in the finals your highest and lowest scoring rounds will be dropped and the 3 remaining scores will be added together to give you your total score for the bout
